Week One – My Final Lamar Class

Standard

I really didn’t think that I’d get here, and this doesn’t mean that I’m graduating. But I think I can do it.

A little perturbed with my course assistant lady (AR) for this class – she is supposedly thorough, but I keep getting contradicting ideas. For example, she says that everywhere on the paper (except the title page) is supposed to be doubled spaced, so I asked her about this because the PDF instructions show double spaced. She then just sent over a word document for me to copy that was single spaced, but had spaces entered in. I’m confused.

She never answered my second e-mail. Haven’t gotten a grade on Week One yet, and I’ll be pretty cranky if I get points taken off for something that I asked that she neglected to answer.

Still getting all sorts of different answers. I signed up for my comp exam next month, but then I read that the portfolio will take the place of the comp exam! Does that apply to me? No one knows…

I was told that I no longer should use Brighten, but use GoCourse instead. I had no idea what GoCourse was. Apparently, it was launched when I was “no longer a student”. Finally got my user name and password on that bad boy.

I am not even thinking about signing up for ILD training at this point.

I think I have made my decision – I am not walking in a graduation ceremony for Lamar. I refuse to give them anymore of my money, other than what they can force (steal?) out of me for a diploma.

If you have had any experiences with Lamar, please, go ahead and anonymously post them in a comment for others to see.

I’m hoping that by this time next year, it will all be just a horrible memory.

  1. I feel your pain! The Lamar experience has been a quite troublesome and frustrating. I’m hoping that, in the end, the degree will be all that matters. Best of luck to you and hang in there!

  2. I’m in the middle of the Lamar Ed.d degree right now and so wish I had someone else to commisserate with (and that someone had warned me about it before I began). I can’t even get the instructors to reply to emails and I’m beyond frustrated. Congrats on finishing, that’s a huge accomplishment!

    • I’m so sorry. That’s why I started blogging about it. I had to vent. My hope is that someone who is looking at this program finds this blog and reads comments like yours and saves their money.
